Based on the production of nanoparticles by altering the matter at the nanoscale, i.e., 1-100nm, nanotechnology has mesmerized everyone in every field. Whether you are doing research in bioremediation, nuclear physics, the textile field, or the medical field, you will find wonders of nanotechnology. One of the most highlighted and excelling works of nanoparticles is found in the healthcare and medical world. So, the combination of medical science and nanotechnology has generated a new and advanced field, known as nanomedicine. According to the definition of nanomedicine, it includes all the advanced systems and processes by using different nanoparticles with reduced side effects.

Working on the principles of nanomedicine, researchers have developed various new treatments and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tools. These tools and therapies have been proven more effective and efficient with fewer side effects. Based on the definition of nanomedicine, it occupies several important applications. Ranging from modern imaging techniques and treating tumor cells efficiently to the advanced drug delivery systems in immunology, nanomedicine has helped mankind in improving its health.

Applications of nanoparticles for cancer therapy

Although nanoparticles have various applications in every field, based on the definition of nanomedicine, one of the applications of nanoparticles for cancer therapy has emerged as the most innovative treatment to cure tumor cells inside the body by killing surrounding normal cells. Some traditional treatment methods, like, radiation and chemotherapy cure the cancer but often damage the healthy cells. However, the definition of nanomedicine defines the method of treatment as the nanoparticles specifically designed to target only the respective cancerous cells. This will directly improve the drug delivery process and the patient’s health.

Different types of nanoparticles for cancer therapy are used nowadays, such as dendrimers, magnetic nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles, fullerenes, and liposomes, etc. Each type of nanoparticle for cancer therapy has its unique properties for treatment. As the definition of nanomedicine clearly describes the size of the nanoparticles is extremely small, so, they are quite permeable to those areas of the body where the larger particles cannot cross the barriers, especially, in the neurons and capillaries. Like, the silver nanoparticles can be used in bandages to enhance the healing process and kill the microbes. Dendrimers have a branched structure, so, it speeds up the drug delivery system inside the body. Likewise, fullerenes have anti-inflammatory properties that resist the allergens to cause infection.

The properties of the nanoparticles for cancer therapy also include their specificity to a specific stimulus, like, if the disease is due to a slight change of pH, these particles will only respond to such changes. This level of precision and advancement has made the medical field more effective. Moreover, the diagnostic tools and techniques, based on the definition of nanomedicine are easy to use, non-toxic, and portable.

Conclusion

The discovery of nanoparticles for cancer therapy is a breathtaking shift in the medical field. As these have created several important and advanced treatment procedures and tools to treat dreadful diseases, like, as cancer.
